Description

Auf einem schmalen schematischen Bodenstück jagt links ein bärtiger Reiter mit windgebauschtem Mantel auf seinem springenden Pferd einen mächtigen Eber, der beinahe so gross ist wie sein Pferd. Seine Rechte an die Pferdemähne klammernd, holt der Jäger mit seinem Spiess über dem Kopf zum Stoss aus. Vor ihm hetzt sein kräftiger Hund mit Halsband hinter dem Wildschwein her.

Research

Trotz der volkskunstartigen Vereinfachung und teilweise ungelenken Komposition und Gestaltung ist beim Jäger die deutliche Anlehnung an die Graphik "Hirschjagd" Stefano della Bellas erkennbar. Auch der Eber dürfte von Stefano della Bellas "Wildschweinjagd" aus der gleichen Folge von neun Radierungen der "Jagden auf verschiedene Tiere" inspiriert worden sein (14.9 x 25.4 cm, resp. 14.5 x 23 cm; Frankfurt am Main, Graph. Slg. im Städelschen Kunstinstitut. Inv.-Nr. 47040 [dV/M 739], resp. Inv.-Nr. 47034 [dV/M 733]).
