    Description

    Der vor einer das Bild waagrecht teilenden Draperie frontal sitzend dargestellte Heilige trägt Kreuz und Zepter. Sein Oberkörper und seine Insignien heben sich von der rot-blauen Weinlaube ab, die ihn vor dem hellen Hintergrund umfängt. Die Inschrift zu Seiten des goldenen Nimbus weisen ihn als den hl. Demetrios aus.
    Schwarzer Originalrahmen mit roter Innenleiste.
    Originale Durchbohrung für die Aufhängung.

    Research

    Demetrios von Saloniki lebte im 2. Jahrhundert und erlitt das Martyrium wahrscheinlich 306 unter Maximinianus in Sirmium. Er wurde zu einem der wichtigsten Krieger- und Reiterheiligen und damit zum Schutzpatron der Soldaten (s. Fabritius/Nentwig 2003, S. 203–206).
    Dieses rumänische Hinterglasbild muss die Funktion einer Haus-Ikone besessen haben.
