    Cette jardinière a été décrite et étudiée de manière exhaustive par Siegmar Geiselberger, notamment avec de nombreuses indications sur la technique de fabrication, particulièrement exigeante (Geiselberger, 2016). Il s'agit peut-être du seul exemplaire connu au monde de ce modèle provenant de la Cristallerie de Saint-Louis. Le dessin N° 1823 paru dans le catalogue MB Launay, Hautin & Cie vers 1840, sur la planche 51, est accompagné par la description "Jardinière m. sablée, rocailles" et l'attribution à Saint Louis (Geiselberger, 2016, p. 2).

    Le verre opale (opaline) est rendu opaque par l’adjonction d’oxyde d’étain, d’oxyde d’antimoine et d’arsenic. Il était en vogue au XIXe siècle, non seulement dans l’art du vitrail, mais aussi pour les objets en verre (Trublard/Bey, 2010, p. 21; Kaiser, 2020, p. 30).
