Information about the Studio

Founded in 1861 by Albert Neuhauser (1833–1901), who was involved early on with experiments on coloured glass, the painter Georg Mader (1824–1881) and the Diocesan architect Josef von Stadl (1828–1893), the Tiroler Glasmalerei und Mosaik-Anstalt is a workshop in Innsbruck, specialised in the production and restoration of stained glass windows and glass mosaics.
In the 19th century, the company had its own glass factory in today's Schöpfstraße in Innsbruck to cover the company's needs. The production was expanded in 1873 with the fabrication of roled plate (Kathedralglas), which led to the renaming of the company to Tiroler Glasmalerei-Anstalt und Kathedralen-Bauhütte and the nomination of Albert's father, the master tinsmith and glazier Anton Neuhauser, and the art historian Albert Jele (1844–1900) as additional partners.
In 1874, Jele replaced Albert Neuhauser as director of the company, a position he was to hold until 1898. Under its new director, the company experienced a great upswing and branches were founded in Vienna and New York.
The company had various artistic directors, among them Bernard Rice (from 1897–1917), Gottlieb Schuller (from 1919–1944) and Josef Widmoser (from 1944–1972). Since 2013, Natascha Mader is running the family business in the fifth generation.
