Alfred Chapon studied architecture at the École des Beaux-arts in Paris. He was the architect of the Tunisian pavilion, the so-called ‘Palais du Bey’, at the Exposition Universelle of 1867 in Paris. For this world's fair, he designed further pavilions in a historicizing style, for example for the Siamese and South American sections.
