    Das vor farblosem, schnurverziertem Grund auf die Rollwerkkartusche mit dem Stifternamen gesetzte Vollwappen Michael Stettlers begleiten die allegorischen Frauengestalten der Grammatik und der Malerei. Hinter diesen erhebt sich eine dreiachsige Architekturrahmung aus schlanken Stützen und einem wuchtigen grünen Gebälk, das eine zentrale rote Rollwerkkartusche mit Engelskopf ziert.

    Sprungbleie und mehrere Sprünge; die Verbleiung erneuert.

    Farbloses und farbiges Glas; rotes Überfangglas mit rückseitigem Ausschliff; Bemalung mit Schwarzlot, Silbergelb, Eisenrot sowie blauer, violetter und grüner Schmelzfarbe; auf vielen Gläsern rückseitig die eingeritzte Brandmarke "z".

    Research

    Michael Stettler (1580–1642), der Sohn des Hieronymus († 1625) und der Anna Grätz war Notar in Bern. Dort wurde er 1605 Chor- und Ehegerichtsschreiber, 1606 Mitglied des Grossen Rats und 1610 Deutschseckelschreiber. Als Landvogt amtete er von 1616–1622 zu Oron und von 1627–1629 zu St. Johannsen. 1629–1642 war er Oberlehenskommissär der Waadt. Er erwarb sich grosse Verdienste als Chronist und Historiograf (HBLS 6/1931, S. 546; HLS 11/2012, S. 896).

    Stettlers Scheibe gehört zu den wenigen signierten Glasgemälden, die sich von Hans Rudolf Lando (1584–1646) aus Bern erhalten haben.
